Spring Valley Golf Club is one the League has not yet played. Scott O'Hare has played it and likes it. It's got lots of mature trees and a creek that runs through it. It has been rated among the 20 best golf courses in the state numerous times. There's a nice course overview on their Web site.
They have a driving range, putting green and chipping area with a bunker. The course is walkable but is fairly hilly. The availability of push carts and rental clubs is not yet known.

¶ Competition Format
As always, folks are welcome to come along and play with the group without participating in the competition. For those that do want to participate, this month's competition is a System 36 stroke play tournament. System 36 is a single day handicap system similar to Peoria or Callaway/Scheid. Players will keep score as normal for a stroke play event. Maximum score for any given hole is double par. Players are welcome to play any tees they like but must play the same tee throughout the round. At the end of the round, a handicap will be computed for each player based on their scores to par on each hole as follows:

The point total is subtracted from 36 (hence the name) to determine the player's "handicap" and will be subtracted from the player's score to par to determine their final score. For example, a given player may have taken 90 strokes during an 18 hole round. Along the way that player makes one birdie, seven pars, eight bogeys, and two double-bogeys or worse. The player's points total would be 24 (8 pars or better for 16 + 8 bogeys for 8 more = 24) and thus their handicap would be 12. Subtracting 12 from 90 yields a final score of 78.
There is $10 entry fee per player to compete in the tournament. The entry fee should be paid to the outing coordinator on arrival to the course. Cash is greatly preferred but the electronic payment methods listed at the top of the page will work, too. If bringing cash, please bring exact change. Prizes will determined based on the number of players entering the competition:

¶ 18Birdies Tournament Information

Our league uses 18Birdies to allow us to manage scores during and after a round. We can also communicate with one another before (to RSVP or ask questions), during (trash talk!) and after the round through the app, upload pictures of our outing and other good things. We can see an ongoing leaderboard of how our fellow members are doing. Oh, and just for keeping track of scores, it's free! We highly encourage it. Use the Tournament Code in the Play section of the app to join the tournament and follow how your fellow golfers are doing on the course. Follow/friend your favorite player in the app to get notifications of round start and end and to be able to follow their progress.
