The June 2022 HAF League outing will be played at CommonGround Golf Course in Aurora, CO, the home course of the Colorado Golf Association, on 26 June, 2022. Click on the logo if you'd like to visit their Web site. This month's outing is one week later because the regularly scheduled date, 19 June, is Father's Day.
It had been rumored that we were going to play The Ridge at Castle Pines North. Their greens fees ($175) would have priced out much of the group, hence the change in venue.
Their address is:
10300 E. Golfers Way
Aurora, CO 80010
Their phone number is (303) 340-1520
CommonGround is owned by the Colorado Golf Association. It was designed by Tom Doak, a legendary architect with dozens of courses around the world including 2 at Bandon Dunes and one at Streamsong that are in the top 100 courses in the US. It's got several mature trees for character but none to get lost in. It has very little in the way of penalty areas or out-of-bounds but, like most Colorado courses, has many areas of native grasses to encourage staying in the fairways. It is definitely walkable for those that want to do so.
The course has very nice practice facilities. There is a long grass driving range to warm up with any and all clubs. It's got two greens for putting only and a third for chipping/pitching/sand practice.
Folks that are interested in playing should pay the outing coordinator (John) in advance in accordance with our new League policy. Payments must be made by 16 June - no exceptions.
Since CommonGround is owned by the CGA, CGA members get preferred rates. If you have a handicap through the HAF League or another CGA member club (CC of Colorado, Flying Horse, etc.), you're also a member of the CGA and USGA so you get these rates. If you're not a member yet and would like to become one (or are merely curious about it), contact John Allen at (719) 337-6349. The difference in rate is more than half the annual membership fee of $35 charged by the USGA - just saying.
Carts should be paid for at the course by those that want to ride. Please don't send that money to the outing coordinator when you pay for your spot - just greens fees.
UPDATE: In order to hold the tee times for a small group this far out, CommonGround charged us a $20 PER PERSON advance booking fee. There is no time to try to find a different place to play so the outing coordinator has paid it. That just makes it $20 more expensive for everyone. In the rates you see below, the $20 is called our separately so you know it is there. When you pay the outing coordinator for your spot, please make sure to include this.
| Item | Price |
|---|---|
| Greens Fees | $53 (CGA members) $72 (others) $20 per person advance booking fee not included Please add it when paying the outing coordinator for your spot |
| Riding Cart | $20 |
| Walking Cart | $10 |
| Caddie | Free (but $10-$20 gratuity is recommended) |
| Club Rental | $45 (premium) |
| Range balls | $8 (30 balls), $11 (60), $15 (90) |

With only a foursome we'll just play a stroke play tournament. $10 buy-in. Winner takes 50% of the pot ($20). The remaining $20 will be used for a closest to the pin contest. It will be split between all holes where there's a winner. Tee shots have to stop on the green. The player that lands closest has to make par or better to win the hole.

Our league uses 18Birdies to allow us to manage scores during and after a round. We can also communicate with one another before (to RSVP or ask questions), during (trash talk!) and after the round through the app, upload pictures of our outing and other good things. We can see an ongoing leaderboard of how our fellow members are doing. Oh, and just for keeping track of scores, it's free! We highly encourage it. If you're viewing this on an iOS device, click the icon above to download the app!
Use the Tournament Code in the Play section of the app to join the tournament and follow how your fellow golfers are doing on the course. Use the Gallery Code to watch from afar if you're interested.
Please validate your attendance and notify John Allen by text at (719) 337-6349 of any changes. We encourage bringing guests! If you would like to invite someone, please send John their cell phone number so he can communicate information with them and share this Web site with them for more information.

Please let the outing coordinator know whether you want to carpool when you RSVP so the carpoolers know when everyone's there and don't leave you.
