There will be a barbecue at John Allen's house following the round. More information about that can be found at the bottom of the page. Please plan to come by!
Shining Mountain is a mountain course. It was designed by John Harbottle III who also designed about 70 courses in the western U.S. including the Los Angeles Country Club North Course on which the 2023 U.S. Open is being played. It is beautiful with views of Pikes Peak on many of the holes. It is challenging, with lots of ups and downs, several fairly narrow fairways and a protected wetland on the back 9. Riding is STRONGLY recommended, due to the elevation, the topography and the distance between some of the holes.
The driving range at Shining Mountain is short. You won't be able to hit woods. You'll have to hit off mats. It's basically for warming up, not for practice. There is a nice, if small, putting green and chipping/pitching green.
The pro shop basically sells apparel, with a small selection of balls and not much else. Make sure you bring what you need with you. The bar and restaurant are fairly standard golf course fare (with some killer views). John Allen is checking on beverage service and will update the page. John is also checking rates for range balls and walking. Walking can be done if there are any gluttonous enough.
Folks that are interested in playing should pay the outing coordinator (John) in advance in accordance with our new League policy. Payments must be made by 15 September.

¶ 18Birdies Tournament Information

Our league uses 18Birdies to allow us to manage scores duringj and after a round. We can also communicate with one another before (to RSVP or ask questions), during (trash talk!) and after the round through the app, upload pictures of our outing and other good things. We can see an ongoing leaderboard of how our fellow members are doing. Oh, and just for keeping track of scores, it's free! We highly encourage it. Use the Tournament Code in the Play section of the app to join the tournament and follow how your fellow golfers are doing on the course. Use the Gallery Code to watch from afar if you're interested.

¶ Post-Round Barbecue
John and MaryLee Allen's house is at 320 Crestwood Drive, Woodland Park, CO. It is about 3 minutes from Shining Mountain Golf Course. His telephone number is at the top of the page in case you get lost.
The barbecue will happen immediately after the last group finishes their round. Hamburgers, hot dogs, sides, tea, lemonade, beer and whiskey will be provided. If you'd like to drink something other than those things, please plan to bring it or let John know.
There is no set time for the barbecue to end. Come and stay for as little or long as you can/would like. Hope to see you all there!
